Meet Dr. Balija

A strong proponent of compassionate and equitable healthcare, Dr. Balija firmly believes in the importance of partnering with patients to optimize outcomes. Dr. Balija was drawn to the field of breast surgical oncology since she understood the unique emotional needs of patients undergoing diagnostic work ups and treatment for breast cancer. Dr. Balija sees patients with a wide breadth of breast disease, including patients who need high risk breast cancer screening due to a family history of breast cancer or atypia, abnormal breast imaging and exams, and breast cancer.

Dr. Balija graduated from Columbia University with a Bachelor of Arts in Biology and minored in Anthropology. She received her Medical Degree from the Mount Sinai School of Medicine and graduated with a Distinction in Research. She later completed general surgery residency at Rutgers-Robert Wood Johnson Medical School and advanced training/fellowship in breast surgical oncology at the Rutgers-Cancer Institute of New Jersey.

Throughout her career, Dr. Balija has continued to contribute to the body of knowledge in breast surgery through various research studies. As an Assistant Professor of Surgery, she has been involved with educating the next generation of medical students and residents at medical schools in New York and New Jersey.
